On display in the newly renovated foyer will be a great art show where the audience is asked to judge the winning entries both in the junior and open sections. The theme for the art show is “Music and Theatre”.

At 1.45pm the Mayor will unveil our “Wall of Fame”, a permanent display of our region’s performing artists that have gained national and/or international recognition.

The Telemann Ensemble performing Baroque music
 to
Delight the senses and feed the mind!

Telemann EnsembleIn the late Baroque period, roughly 1680-1750, small instrumental groups normally consisted of two or three melody instruments accompanied by the “basso continuo” which is the defining feature of baroque style and comprised harpsichord and/or cello or viola da gamba. Our pieces by Telemann, Vivaldi and Williams present a variety of such combinations, respectively German (with a strong Polish influence), Italian and English. The trio by Seig which concludes the first half of our programme is a joyous piece inspired by black African music. The textures may be African but the composer has used typically European compositional processes to sustain the interest over its relatively long time-frame of about 13 minutes.
