Art Deco In The Tropics
Innisfail Karnivale 3 to 19 October 2008

Think flapper dress and gangsters, Indian Jones, Greta Garbo, Clark Gable and Charlie Chaplin, because this years Karnivale is all about the Art Deco period of the 1920’s and 30’s and all that Jazz. Running over the first 2 weeks of October from the 3rd to the 19th the theme is “Art Deco in the Tropics” and is a celebration of our beautiful buildings, natural environment, multicultural community, our heritage and our rural industry.
The two weeks will feature events such as the Mission Beach Aquatic Festival, Innisfail Harvest Festival, Innisfail Turf Club Annual Racing Carnival, Sea Haven Longest Lunch, Innisfail Idol, Vintage Car and Motor Bike displays, 1930’s inspired movie night, Wine and Cheese Tasting, Photography Exhibition, Art Deco Town Walk, Workshops, Short Film Festival, Greek Dinner Dance, Cemetery Walks and a Metrogaine.
The largest event on the Calendar is the Innisfail Harvest Festival on the 11th October. Featuring Innisfail as the Art Deco Capital of Australia, the festival will see the Innisfail Esplanade transformed with a dance floor and mirror ball for an evening of 1920’s dance displays, Jazz music form the Swinging Alley Catz, Bess dressed competition, traditional street parade featuring vintage cars, art deco inspired floats and marching bands, billy cart races, great food, children’s activities, circus displays and carnival rides.
Starting from 2pm the afternoon entertainment will feature and array of multi cultural entertainment and workshops, local bands, relay races and activities for everyone to enjoy.
So get set to put on your feather boa’s and dancing shoes for 2 weeks of Jazz and Jive.
If you would like to be involved in the festival, applications are now available for expressions of interest for food stalls, performers, workshops, stalls, artists and volunteers.
In the lead up to the festival we will be holding a series of workshops to get everyone into the Art Deco swing of things.
The workshops are
