Its Karnivale Time!
From Friday 3 October to Sunday 19 October, the Cassowary Coast goes into festival mode during the Innisfail Karnivale - Art Deco In The Tropics. There will be fun for the whole family with events such as the Aquatic Festival at Mission Beach, Innisfail Street Party and Fancy Dress Parade, Innisfail Harvest Festival and the Cassowary Coast Metrogain.
The Innisfail Harvest Festival held on Saturday 11 October is and afternoon and evening packed full of fun and excitement for all. Beginning at 2.30pm the afternoon offers a variety of entertainment; multicultural performances, Billy Cart Races along the Innisfail Esplanade, circus workshops and display, story telling and children songs. At 5.30pm is the Grand Street Parade.
As well as the scheduled Children’s entertainment, a Children’s Tent with free activities will run throughout the festival as well as Carnival rides, free face painting, arts and craft activities, jumping castles, a Children’s Art Competition, youth stage and area and great food stalls until 8.30pm when the sky will be filled with fireworks. |

Thursday Night 9 October is the Innisfail Street Party featuring the Innisfail idol Competition, Fancy Dress Parade, Introduction of the Queen and Princess entrants and the judging of the best dressed business and window competition.
Beginning at 5.00pm with live music and dancing displays the first event of the night is the Children’s Fancy Dress Parade kindly sponsored by Girl’s Only. All children are invited to dress in their favourite costumes and be a part of the parade. Marshalling at 5.30pm in the Cane Cutter Court children will parade through Cane Cutter Court and back to the stage in 2 categories 0-5, and 6-12. A winner and a runner up will be chosen from each category. All children participating in the parade will receive a free show bag of goodies and balloon’s kindly donated by local businesses.
At 6.00pm we will introduced this years Bundaberg Sugar Harvest King, Queen, Prince and Princess entrant, each entrant will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and answer a few questions.
The main event of the night at 6.15pm is the Ergon Energy Innisfail idol. Now in its 5th year, the competition is becoming one of the most exciting singing competitions in the district. Each year the number of competitors is growing, along with the skills of the entrants, with many winners going on to perform throughout the year at numerous community events. This is a great night to see what amazing talent we have in our town and to support our local musicians. Last years winners Zeb Borghero and Kara Glen-Worth will also perform and hand over the title to the new Innisfail Idol.
The last announcement of the night will be the winner of the Best Dressed Business Competition. The Innisfail Advocate is bringing back the Best Dressed Businesses Competition for 2008 and inviting local businesses to join in the festivities of the Karnivale by dressing up there businesses and staff in an “Art Deco – Life in the Tropics” theme through out the 2 weeks of the Innisfail Karnivale from the 3 – 19 October. Possible themes for businesses could be Flappers and Gangsters, Our historical Sugar Industry in the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s, Innisfail’s Art Deco Buildings or Movie Starts from that era. Be imaginative and include the things you love about living in Innisfail and the tropics. Winners will be announced on stage at 8.00pm.
Through out the night there will also be a fashion parade by local sewing students at Angie’s Sewing Centre, Art Deco dancing display, The Just Sing It Singing Choir, Art Deco town walks, and Art Deco costume making workshops.
