Reflecting on our people, our places, our stories
“River Reflections” is an 8 panel public artwork set into the coping wall along Fitzgerald Esplanade in Innisfail which depicts, on some 120 tiles, many various stories of the town and region – it contains the stories of people, places, history and future aspirations of the area. It was always the intention to bring together the story, photos and details of the entire process into a book which has now been completed. The book was intended to provide tourists and locals alike, with a book to compliment the artwork that was created along the Johnstone River and unveiled in 1999. Q150 grant became a timely source of funding to highlight the endeavours of our pioneers and a truly convenient time to celebrate the achievements of all Queenslanders.
The auspice Green Ant Inc. in collaboration with the author has planned an official book launch set for Friday 13th November at the Public Art site along the Esplanade. At completion of the launch by Mayor Bill Shannon, the author Peter Kellett local historian, will invite the guests and general public to an interpretive walk using the book as reference to enhance the artwork viewing experience.
